IRA invites application for contribution to the national database

India lacks a database for common rheumatic diseases, without which we depend on the western description for our patients. The clinical presentations, complications, treatment response and outcome of rheumatic diseases in India is therefore unknown. Although COPCORD studies have generated some community based symptom related database, the diagnoses are largely unknown or underestimated. With this background we intend to generate a database to understand clinical presentation and outcome of ten selected common rheumatic diseases in referral centers setup across the nation, henceforth termed as “IRA database project”. The two specific objectives of the project would be,

1. To characterize the clinical presentations and demographics of common rheumatic diseases.

2. To assess treatment outcome of common rheumatic diseases using existing protocols in referral centers setups in India.

The data for the project shall be captured in a computerized record form (CRF) drafted individually for each of the 10 common rheumatic diseases: RA, Spondyloarthritis, Gout, Sjogren’s syndrome, SLE, Scleroderma, Myositis, MCTD, ANCA vasculitis, and Takayasu arteritis. The individual centers data can only be accessed by that center and it will not be possible to access other centers data. The central database generation and data management will be done by the Department of Biostatics, Christian Medical College & Hospital, Vellore. For the same purpose, we invite interested centreswith electronic record system and their proposed principal investigators (PIs) to participate in the project. Interested centresand PI’s can contact at the following address for further details.
