International Fellowships 

APLAR FELLOWSHIP 2011

This Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology (APLAR) invites applications from science and medical graduates from APLAR member societies of developing countries for its APLAR FELLOWSHIP. The grant of US$10,000 is to assist graduates to undertake intensive or advanced study in the research or clinical aspects of either adult or paediatric rheumatology in a rheumatic disease unit in any country within (preferable) or outside the Asia Pacific area for a minimum period of six months. The successful candidate must have a long-term commitment to continue research or clinical work in his / her own country at the conclusion of the Fellowship. The grant is to cover air fares, accommodation and subsistence costs. Up to three APLAR Fellowship grants are available for the year 2011.

The offer is valid only for:

  1. Medical or science graduate of less than 40 years of age.

  2. Nationals of countries in the Asia Pacific area who are members of APLAR.

The following documents need to be enclosed with the application:

  1. Photocopy of birth certificate.

  2. Recommendation of the Head of Department where the applicant works at present.

  3. Recommendation of the Chairman or President of the national rheumatology society.

  4. Curriculum vitae including a recent 2 x 2 inch photograph.

  5. A written statement that the institute where the applicant wishes to work is able to accommodate him / her and the willingness of an instructor to supervise the programme.

  6. A general outline of the clinical or laboratory course or research work the applicant wishes to undertake.

  7. A certificate of fluency in the host country’s language.

  8. A certificate of ability to write the country’s language at tertiary level.

  9. A reference of good standing from the Dean of the candidate’s medical school / university.

All successful fellows are required to submit a full report to the APLAR Executive Committee upon the completion of the Fellowship. Additionally, they are required to submit data from the work carried out during the Fellowship for presentation at a subsequent APLAR Congress of Rheumatology, and for publication as a full scientific article in the International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases.

IRA INTERNATIONAL TRAVELING FELLOWSHIP-2011

Last Date: February 15, 2011

IRA invites applications from young Indian medical graduates for Travelling Fellowship to attend APLAR symposium at Taipei, Taiwan in (www.aplar.org/aplarsymposium2011) in April 2011.

The fellowship includes a consolidated amount of Rs 40000/- and a certificate from IRA.

Number of Fellowships: One

Who can apply?

The applicants should be below 40 years of age

They should have paper (Oral / poster) accepted  for presentation in APLAR symposium as first author

Only medical graduates working in India are eligible

Preference will be given to IRA Members

The following documents need to be enclosed with the application

  1. Age proof ( Photocopy of Birth certificate or   passport)
  2. Acceptance letter of the paper  from the Scientific Committee of APLAR
  3. Abstract submitted
  4. Curriculum Vitae of the applicant with 2  recent passport size photographs
  5. A reference of good standing from the head of the institution or an active IRA member
  6. Details of any other financial assistance obtained  for attending the same conference

4 copies of the applications  should be send to the Secretary IRA  on or before February 15, 2011

The application will be scrutinized by the credential committee of IRA and an award letter issued  to the selected candidate.  Fellowship money and certificate shall be given to the successful candidate on submission of:

  1. Conference Attendance certificate
  2. One page report of the conference to be published in Indian Journal of Rheumatology  within 2 months from the last date of the conference.

Those who have availed the Fellowship earlier cannot re-apply.

The decision of Credentials Committee of IRA shall be final and no correspondence entertained in this regard.

Indo-UK Rheumatology Travelling Fellowship

Objective : To fund a promising young rheumatologist (trainee) to attend an International Rheumatology Conference: BSR or EULAR

 

Recipients of the fellowship are encouraged to spend some time in one or more Rheumatology units of their choice in UK to gain further experience in their area of interest. The duration of visit can vary from 6 weeks to 3 months dependant on personal circumstances and be linked to the back of the conference. Applicants should be members of IRA and should have demonstrated their commitment to Rheumatology by signing in/already working in a Rheumatology training programme. Applicants are at liberty to apply for additional funding to other agencies

Number of fellowships for the year 2012: One (1)
Amount: UK £ 1250
Last Date: 15th August 2011 before 5pm.
Age limit: 40 years

• Brief CV (no more than one page) PLUS one page outlining:
• Applicants choice of International Conference
• Reasons why the fellowship should be granted to the individual
• How the fellowship will help the applicants career plans
• Area of special interest/ overseas Rheumatology units the applicant would like to spend time and correspondence
  with host units
• Abstract Acceptance Letter is desirable but not essential
• Recommendation of the Consultant/Supervisor of the Training Programme (Please request the Supervisor to email his/her recommendation to Dr Ira Pande)

Short listed candidates may be required to attend a personal interview during IRACON-2011. Fellowship awardees have to submit a conference report for publication in Indian Journal of Rheumatology to Editor IJR
