Osteoporosis is an emerging problem with increasing prevalence due to the ageing population in our country. It is a comorbidity which adversely affects patients with inflammatory and autoimmune rheumatic diseases.
Present data on prevalence of osteoporosis in India come from studies conducted in small groups spread across the country. It is generally perceived that there is a scope for significant improvement for the overall management of osteoporosis.
Therefore, establishing a SIG related to osteoporosis would be a valuable resource for the IRA members. Through the activities of SIG we hope to raise the awareness and knowledge about osteoporosis, collaborate with our colleague in other specialties and to improve our existing guidelines and clinical practice .
We think that there is a pressing need to constitute an Osteoporosis SIG within the IRA to meet the objective described below, promote research, clinical trial that will lead to better outcomes for patients with osteoporosis in our country.
